THE BABY ELMO PARENTING PROGRAM

HELPING PARENTS AND
CHILDREN STAY CONNECTED

This free program is open to any parent with a child ages 0 - 5 in Yolo County.
Sessions are currently offered on Thursdays and Fridays.

Baby Elmo Parenting ProgramIn this ongoing Yolo County program, parents meet each week to discuss an area of child development, such as the importance of relationships, games, language, copying.  The group will then watch a Sesame St. video.  The video includes examples of different games, and shows positive parenting skills.  During the session each parent will plan games to play with their baby. The parent will then practice the planned activity such as peek-a-boo or naming objects.

The program consists of ten sessions between parent and his/her child each lasting about 60 minutes.  Different topics are specified for each week, but all sessions focus on the developing positive social interactions between parents and their children focusing on language and social-emotional development.

The program has been developed by the Early Learning Project of Georgetown University.  They have developed an intervention program that helps parents reinterpret children’s behavioral cues.  The program incorporates aspects of both cognitive/language development and social/emotional development. Both are critical skills for the parent to have to establish a relationship with a baby and to promote healthy child development.  Brochure.
