This annual event (full video below on this page) honors NAMI Yolo County’s founder Pat Williams and recognizes outstanding community leaders who advance our mission for a future in which everyone who experiences a mental health condition has access to the support and resources we need to live well.

Dr. Captane Thomson, MD
Dr. Captane Thomson, MD is a Yolo County psychiatrist and former Mental Health Director who has served our county for over 55 years. Known affectionately as “Cap”, he has significant experience seeing clients, serving as an expert for the courts, and as a mentor and advisor to many organizations, including NAMI Yolo County. He is also well known as a member of the Putah Creek Crawdads band.

Bronwyn Murphy, Inclusion Coordinator at University Covenant Church

Topic: Everyone is Worthy of Being Loved

Bronwyn’s personal and professional experiences in navigating mental health and developmental diagnoses and support have inspired her to build supportive and inclusive spaces within faith communities and educational institutions. Bronwyn serves as the Inclusion Coordinator at University Covenant Church and is an inclusion workshop and parent group facilitator for the Pacific Southwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. She has also worked as a Special Education teacher and case manager in a public school setting as well in residential care as a social skills trainer and tutor for foster youth and youth transitioning from the juvenile justice system. Bronwyn is passionate about equipping and encouraging families impacted by mental health challenges.

NAMI Yolo is the Yolo County California chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. We are a grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with psychiatric disorders, which include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, clinical depression, panic disorder.
